Google / YouTube

2008 - 2015

I was the primary engineer on numerous end-user-visible and infrastructure projects, plus countless bug hunts and production issues; the tech lead on strategic and revenue-generating products; and a frequent liaison between Engineering and Legal. I also served on the Privacy team and on Hiring committees.

Rights Management

On the Rights Management Team I developed and maintained features allowing copyright holders to identify and claim their content in YouTube videos, balancing that with features allowing users to dispute copyright claims.

YouTube Video Editor

On the Video Editor Team I developed and maintained features allowing users to enhance their videos with fixes and effects, and to create new ones from existing videos. I owned the AudioSwap and Song Eraser features, created the audio-enhancements UI, added the Creative Commons licensing option for YouTube videos, and resolved many issues at the intersection of video-editing and rights-management.

A couple of years after I left YouTube, the video editor was discontinued. I wrote an article eulogizing it: Requiem for Warhol.
